Gangs of bikini clad baristas are ruining our area and tormenting our citizens. I am so glad to see local politicians who are not afraid to take on these dangerous criminals. I know that when I drive through downtown Yakima, enjoying watching the homeless people, taking in the wonderful graffiti and seeing the gangs wandering freely through the streets the last thing I want to have to worry about is my safety from these baristas. Truly a danger to our lifestyle these women have the audacity to legally earn money and become productive members of society. We can’t have that! They must be dealt with now! There is no room for this in Yakima. Yakima is known all over the nation for their gang and drug problem. Bikini Baristas could tarnish that well earned image.
Of course, all sarcasm aside, this is what our local wannabe politicians believe is the issue worth tackling to get them elected? I refuse to go to any place where my food or drink is made by someone dressed in their underwear but wow! There are so many more issues in this area that should be dealt with. These stands are legal businesses, if you don’t like them, don’t go to them. If you are driving by them and you see something you don’t like then call the police just as you can with any other business. It has been established that these stands are abiding by rules set forth by Washington State and as long as they are then they are allowed to operate.
Would I allow my daughter to work in one of these stands? No. As I said, I don’t visit these stands and I am not sure of my level of approval or disapproval but I don't claim to be the moral compass for the rest of this community. I will say that they obviously don’t bother me as much as a lot of others.
What does bother me is that these are being used as a platform for election to office. These are not a problem worthy of that sort of attention. Taking on young ladies in their underwear is counterproductive to the real issues facing Yakima. The gang problem is out of hand. Graffiti is everywhere now. Our town has a horrible reputation, not only in this state but in the entire country. Why aren’t the real issues being dealt with? Clean up the streets before you tackle the coffee houses. I will not vote for any politician who has such a backwards agenda.
Why doesn’t Michele Strobel drive from house to house asking gang members to quit their gangs? Is it a good idea to go to a coffee stand and try to convince these girls to quit their jobs? It is nice of her to force her sense of morality onto those trying to make a living. It is easy to point the finger at a business you feel is an “eyesore” and blame them for the situation downtown. It is a lot harder to look into the real problems but this area needs politicians who are willing to work at their jobs rather than attach themselves to a popular headline.
The real comedy lies in the fact that she states that “these” stands are eyesores. She visited two stands. One in Yakima and one in Union Gap. I have no idea where the one on Yakima Ave is located exactly. How is the stand in Union Gap an eyesore in downtown Yakima? How has the stand in Union Gap negatively affected business in that area? Union Gap seems to be booming. This is not where Yakima needs to put its political priorities.

Hey James...I've never stopped in to see what the fuss is all about at these local coffee stands where the Baristas aren't completely dressed, but one of these days I will! The way I see it is they are working girls...paying taxes...not on wellfare...bringing in more customers! If they aren't breaking any laws, leave them alone! If they are breaking any laws, then bust them hard!
We have so many more important things to take care of in our fair city...speeders...red light runners...idiots who shouldn't be driving period, gangs, graffiti, potholes, etc. Let's encourage the city council to address the tough issues and leave the rest alone...it'll all work out in the end!
